This is one of the best pieces I’ve read about the role of journalism in a digital world. It argues that print is best for analysis. In a world of information overload, newspapers should concentrate on providing context for their many audiences.

Mojo course in Colac

Today I ran a course called “new tools for reporting” at the Colac Herald. It was a practice run for workshops I will run in Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian capital, next month for the Malaysian Press Institute.

WSJ embraces video

In this video Alan Murray, deputy managing editor of The Wall Street Journal, talks about training newspaper journalists to shoot video. Some of them are mojos with Nokia mobile phones.

I published an article online and in print in The Age (Melbourne, Australia) July 24 about how the mojo is changing journalism. The story also focuses on how expensive data charges are limiting Australians’ willingness to use their mobiles to surf the web.

Online journalists perform a wide variety of tasks, though writing is the most common. That was the finding of Ryan Thornburg, who  surveyed online journalists in North Carolina to find out how they worked in the past three months. He found online journalists spend their time on an average of nine different duties, with writing original […]
